i’m alex and i’m here today we’re going
to eat
yay and i’m with my good friend mia
who is from masani mises she’ll tell you
a little bit about
it hi i’m mia so i’m from messani misses
our advocacy is plant-based nutrition
across the philippines so we promote
locally grown and sourced vegetables so

our baha’i cuba vegetables
yeah awesome so we’re going to talk
about alex’s actually
30-day plant-based journey which is one
of our programs in mesani misses
so for 30 days i only ate vegetarian
food
and kakatapu and i loved it
so much that i’m really planning to be
plant-based
for majority of my diet for today we
are going to attack this
cigarillia curry oh it looks so good it
smells so good
and we cooked it ourselves so i
i’m learning
we are going to do cook and eat
so today we’re making cigarillas curry
nice fresh from the farms okay so the
first step
alex you want to do this so you’re gonna
slice them into these tiny pieces
just this
so we’re making curry because i know
alex likes spicy food
the struggle is real i think i shall

vegan dish alex
yes i love curries i’m so excited do you
have a favorite vegetable
banana banana is not a vegetable y’all
okay so while i’m chopping these i was
just gonna open the cans of
it’s better to use freshly squeezed
but since we don’t have that we can’t
cook it up number two
next ingredient so we already have here
our main ingredient cigarillas
the next ingredient is onion
so i’m topping onions and garlic for our
sauce
so much behind the scenes work i’m so
ready to eat

so that i can eat guys
after adopting a plant-based diet i
realized that i can still eat a lot
beautiful
and not have to feel like oily and
sticky and gross and heavy
yeah it’s been great i think that’s one
of the first things i learned and also
like since i work out a lot alex is my
my trainer by the way
um i felt that i actually had more
energy and strength to do my workouts
compared to when i was eating meat
so that’s like a that’s a myth buster
for you i don’t think people get weaker
when they eat plants i actually think
they get stronger

i’ll put the onions in first
yes
beautiful hey guys i am cooking that’s
my hand
so we mix in the onions garlic
garam masala so we’re just gonna put
that together
and lower the heat a bit
after that we add the tomato sauce oh my
god it smells so good
half a cup
mix it all together so all the flavors
combine
oh my gosh smells strong i didn’t want
to sneeze
okay you’re mixing that together we add
the cigarillas so this is two cups of
the freshly chopped cigarettes
put that in there
mix it all together
so you want to coat everything with the
spices so it’s all flavorful
whoops one escaped i am not a chef
it smells super good over here we wish
you could smell this
alright so once we coat
the cigarillas with the mixture we add
our coconut milk
oh my god
all right so we’ll let that simmer for a
bit
so we added our mustard seed a bit more
alex and i like it super spicy so we’re
just going to let this simmer
for a bit to soften the cigarettes it’s
about 10 minutes 10 to 15 minutes
since i chopped it really tiny
awesome it smells really good
so curry is one of my favorite foods i
really love spicy food so much
and i love to eat a lot but when i eat
curry with meat
i get so full and i feel so heavy so
when i eat curry i always try to get
vegetarian curry
it’s my first time to try with
cigarillas i’m so excited because
cigarillos is in baha’i kubo
okay i was gonna say it’s native to the
philippines but i know
that the vegetables in bahiko are not no
not all some there’s lots i’m not sure
so
but still cigar elias has been used in
the philippines
ever since they made by people so
this is this is great
yeah it’s getting kind of soft
so right now we’re boiling water for our
pineapple kamati tops juice
and then alex is wrapping up our
cigarillas curry which smells
so so good so exciting
all right so our water is boiling i’m
going to add our kamado dots
freshly harvested from the garden

so i like just getting a whole bunch
just dumping it in the boiling water
i know
so we let it boil for about 10 minutes
and we let it steep for five more
so we could just leave that i’ll prepare
the pie
oh alex do you want to open these yeah
okay so i’m almost done with the
cigarettes carry we’re gonna leave it on
for maybe a minute more
so if you check it it’s not as tough as
as it was earlier
but i like leaving it not too soft
because i like the crunch i like keeping
the crunch
so just another minute and we’re good
should be good
now we have our pineapple slices and
kamata tops in here
and we’re going to blend it together and
we’re going to make our pineapple
kamatitas juice
yes
i’m so excited because it’s not like
it’s my face right like sure it’s hard
i don’t know how you do it that makes
you crazy
i might burn myself right hey do it blow
it first don’t put it there
you have a complex oh my gosh
is it too spicy no i’m putting
chili
okay let’s try the cigarette curry that
alex and i made
which is part of the part of the menu of

um journey plant-based challenge extra

i’m so excited look at my face
such a good kick it’s so perfect for
like rainy weather which we’ve all been
having now
um
i think i got the futuristic same just
feels like a teaspoon
i feel deprived

so this is kamaka tops and pineapple
with a bit of water
that’s so good so good so clean
no sugar
it goes really well with the cigarettes
curry because they kind of like taste

what i love about masa recipes it’s

gig
so we gave them plant-based meals so it
was some we used semester recipes and we
had them
in eco-friendly containers so
we always make sure and mess up all our
programs are sustainable and we don’t
sacrifice the health of our planet
i have more of this juice it’s really
good
so it’s cool like we mentioned earlier
um this juice is just made of come off
the tops
come off the tops which we actually grew
last month on our ig live you can check

so i harvested the tops threw them in a
blender along with some pineapple slices
and then added a bit of water and ice
and voila
very simple very healthy very good
this is so fun i don’t have to talk and
i’ll just eat

really thick
it’s like creamy spicy
savory and the cigarettes is really soft
it’s perfectly cooked we let it simmer
so that’s the secret

debunk the myth that plant-based food is
expensive
it’s not we use locally sourced
vegetables it’s really just cigarillas
