Intermittent fasting the Modern Smile Way



This is Dr. Tamisha Denis and today
we’re going to talk about intermittent
fasting and dental tricks to help you
start your fast and break your fast
every time you turn it on you got
somebody in there talking about lose
weight get hit there get in shape yeah
if I look at all anti Rick you talked
about that’s here at the I know what
healthy is it tell you something

Good Morning Everyonte this is Dr. Tamisha Denis and as you
can see right now I am in my gym clothes so
the reason that I’m in my gym clothes is
this morning we’re to talk about
intermittent fasting and anyone who
knows me well knows that I’ve been a fan
of intermittent fasting for about I
don’t know three years now after I had
my second kid was now three years old I
decided it was time to lose weight I’m a
little bit different when I have a kid I
usually do not gain a lot of weight
during my pregnancy I’m actually quite
small but then what happens is after
that I’m really hungry eat
and then I eat like a lot after my
second daughter was born I gained about
15 or 20 pounds and I really wasn’t
happy with the way that I was looking so
I’ve tried a lot of diets in the past
that I decided to try intermittent
fasting and for those of you who don’t
know what intermittent fasting is that
basically means that you do not eat in a
certain window and/or you fast in a
certain window and then you eat only in
a certain window for example one of the
ways that you can internment it fast is
that you can stop eating at around 8
o’clock at night after dinner we have
dinner and stop eating and you fast from
for about 16 hours so that would bring
you to about noon the next day so and
then you’re eating window would be from
noon to 8 p.m. which is quite generous I
think and if you think about it in a
simple way intermittent fasting means
that you don’t have breakfast so about
noon you break your fat by having lunch
and depending on what your goals are and
what your starting point is if you start
eating at noon
and eating until 8:00 you have a smaller
window to consume a smaller amount of
calories so for me in the beginning I
ate whatever I wanted during that eating
window so from about noon to 8 it still
works
so I can only eat so much I went
ferociously on lunch I would just eat
like crazy at lunchtime I mean I’d be
pretty focused how much can you eat in
one sitting and then after that I would
eat dinner when I got home or I would
have a protein shake or whatever you did
and when I got home and then stopped
eating and then
the next day started all again so and I
did that for about eight months and I
lost my 815 pounds which was really good
for me at that point all of my goal was
what’s in his way then I kind of
switched it over and I started the six
meals a day saying because I wanted to
get more into bodybuilding and that sort
of thing and then now I’m back to
intermittent fasting why does that have
anything to do with dentistry what does
that have to do with your modern smile
what does that have to do with the
health of your teeth I’ll tell you in a
second
so of course when you’ve decided not to
have breakfast and you are going to eat
only within a certain window there are
times especially in the beginning you’re
going to be really hungry and what I
found is so what I felt is brushing your
teeth I know I’m a dentist so everything
has to do with being a dentist but
imagine you have been let’s start at the
end of the day you ate dinner and for me
I almost like always have to have
something sweet after I eat because I
feel like I haven’t finished my meal so
let’s say I do have something sweet and
then I don’t know you’re lounging you’re
watching TV it’s the end of the day
maybe you’re playing on your phone and
then you get that I want to have
something else to eat I found that
brushing your teeth after that last like
to start you’re fast brush your teeth
before you start you’re fast brushing
your teeth it does something it makes
you not want to eat because the taste of
toothpaste mixed in with food or
anything even if it is a good tasting
thing just doesn’t quite taste the same
so if you brush your teeth to start
you’re fat let’s say you’re doing the
way that I did it and you’re fasting for
16 hours and you write after dinner you
had your dinner maybe you had your
little sweet snack and then you brushed
your teeth it would be I think very good
if you want to take it one step up
you’ll floss your teeth in addition and
then you’ll find that when you when
you’re fasting it’s not so hard because
you’re almost kind of prepared not to
eat now when you wake up in the morning
and me I’m kind of like a crazy fit at
this point of my life I go to the gym
free early in the morning I brush my
teeth then while I’m fasting I have
BCAAs and I have other things to drink
during my fast then I work thank God
but um again brushing your teeth in the
morning brushing your teeth maybe after
you come back from the gym
workout in the morning like me it kind
of gives gives your mouth that kind of
clean sensation and it’s kind of okay
not to eat so and then you can just
drink your drink stay hydrated
throughout the rest of the morning until
noon and then you can break your fast
with lunch
so because you have a modern smile those
are my tips for how to intermittent fast
successfully and also how to integrate
brushing your teeth in helping you to
kind of curb your appetite so you don’t
actually feel like eating so this has
